U.S. Coast Guard Launches NAVITA Digital Mariner Credentialing Platform

U.S. Coast Guard Launches NAVITA Digital Mariner Credentialing Platform

The U.S. Coast Guard has launched NAVITA™, its new digital platform for U.S. merchant mariner credentialing, on September 14, 2026.

Developed by the Coast Guard’s National Maritime Center (NMC), NAVITA is designed to modernize how mariners apply for and manage Merchant Mariner Credentials (MMC) and medical certificates.

The platform allows mariners to:

• Submit MMC applications online
• Submit medical certificate applications
• Track application progress
• Manage credential information in one place
• Reuse profile information for future credentialing transactions

NAVITA uses Login.gov for secure sign-in and identity verification. Mariners accessing the platform for the first time will need to establish their NAVITA profile and link it to their credentialing record.

The Coast Guard says the system is intended to reduce paperwork, improve application transparency and provide a more streamlined credentialing process.

NAVITA is being introduced in phases, with additional capabilities expected as the Coast Guard continues its broader Mariner Credentialing Program modernization.
