On 17 November 2025 a drone struck a Turkish-flagged vessel in the port of Izmail in the Odesa region of Ukraine. The tanker, called MT Orinda, reportedly was off-loading liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) when the attack occurred.
The vessel had a Turkish flag and 16 Turkish crew, all of whom were safely evacuated.
The cargo was dangerous: an estimated 4,000 tons of LPG were onboard.
The fire triggered evacuations of nearby Romanian villages on the Danube’s opposite bank—due to explosion risk.
Ukrainian authorities reported that Russian drones attacked port infrastructure and civilian vessels in the region overnight.
