DOF Skandi Amazonas Grounding in Brazil

Please share, it's important for me
  • The vessel reportedly ran aground off the coast of Macaé around May 15–16, 2026.
  • Early reports say the ship suffered hull damage after the grounding.
  • Initial information indicates there were 22 crew members onboard and no injuries have been reported.
  • The information is still preliminary, and there has not yet been a detailed formal casualty report from DOF or Brazilian maritime authorities.

The incident first surfaced through maritime industry chatter and vessel casualty trackers rather than a major official press release:

  • gCaptain forum discussions cited local Brazilian reports and social media posts showing the vessel near shore after the incident.
  • VesselTracker later summarized that the ship suffered a hull breach after grounding near Macaé.

About the vessel:

  • Skandi Amazonas is part of DOF’s large offshore support fleet and is classified as an AHTS (Anchor Handling Tug Supply) vessel used for offshore oil and gas operations, especially in Brazil.

At this point, the missing pieces are:

  • cause of grounding (weather, navigation, propulsion, DP failure, etc.)
  • extent of flooding or environmental impact
  • whether the vessel will require drydock repair
  • whether operations in the area were disrupted

DOF itself has not yet published a detailed incident statement on its official news page as of today.
